Fume Hood Testing

The Hamilton fume hood program is the recognized pioneer in establishing proper fume hood performance levels and certification testing both at the factory and on-site. Since the early 1980's the Hamilton fume hood design team has contributed continuously to the development and adoption of the ASHRAE 110 standard for laboratory fume hood testing.

The ASHRAE 110 test procedure implemented on Hamilton fume hoods in 1985 provided us with a better tool for building advanced fume hoods. SafeAireŽ was the first fume hood line developed utilizing ASHRAE 110 as a design tool. At that time the company also made the commitment to test each size and type of hood built. This practice is followed today, and the Hamilton brand fume hood continues to be unique in the industry with our commitment to total fume hood certification.

Over many years of hood and testing changes our commitment continues to progress. Today Hamilton is proud to have three state-of-the-art test cells dedicated to fume hood and biological safety cabinet certification. A large test cell was constructed to provide large or multiple hood mockup testing. The latest feature and capability is to recreate the actual field conditions including ceiling height, diffuser type and location enabling us to test the hoods under actual site challenges.

Prototypes and new designs are routinely subjected to intensive testing. Upon request, Hamilton technicians will test samples of standard hoods under specific operating conditions.

We encourage customers to visit our Wisconsin facility to view testing of Hamilton airflow products. Several types of working fume hoods are installed for personal inspection. Please contact your local Hamilton Dealer to make arrangements.
